I didn't intended to not post on my blog for so long, but it's just how things have turned out. Lots of things going on around here. Some general busy-ness and some changes. Some good. Some not so good. But such is life. Moving on. :)
Here's a little update on what's been going on with us!
Evan got contacts and has started wearing them just a few hours a day. He's had glasses for about 3 years now, but he rarely wears them because he hates the way they look. We finally decided to give contacts a try and so far, so good. No picture though, because it seems my 14 yr. old son thinks posing for photos is dumb. ;) (pick your battles, ya know? ... )
We have had several hummingbirds visiting all day and evening long lately. I love watching them! I have gotten a bunch of great pics, but I won't bore everyone with all my bird pics and just picked one to share. They are the coolest little things! There is one hummingbird that hangs around with a red neck/chest that I haven't been able to get a decent picture of yet. I read a little bit about hummingbirds and learned that they are very territorial (especially the males). This little guy must be a male because he is always chasing the other birds away and yipping at everything (including us!) but he rarely actually feeds from either of our feeders. They really have been fun to watch this year.
I love my colorful Fiestaware dishes and I bought a new orange place setting this week. The bright colors make me happy. :) And yes, I've still been eating oatmeal with cooked fruit for breakfast every day.
Maya bought me flowers for no reason at all. :) She and I went to the Y to workout and she was finished in about 45 minutes but I wanted to get in another 30 minutes on the bike so she decided to head off and go pick up her paycheck and come back to pick me up after I finished. When she picked me up, she had this bouquet of flowers for me in the car. :)
Our local fair has been going on this week and while I fully intended on eating only one corn dog and one treat, it turned into eating at the fair three times this week. We shared a lot of the food so I don't think I ate a whole lot of junk, but what I did have was certainly straight up crap food! My favorite: deep fried Reese's cups. Oh. My. Gosh.
This picture of Maya and Bruiser because, well, it's just too sweet not to share. :)
We ordered a stone to mark Sammy's grave. Sad and happy at the same time. It's a beautiful stone and I love that we have a beautiful way to memorialize our sweet girl.
The weather has been so nice and we've been outdoors a lot. Bruiser is loving being able to run in the back yard now that it's completely fenced in! Todd and Evan finished cutting off the extra pieces from the fence posts and it is now complete. Love it!
Lots of time spent at the Y getting a workout in and plenty of racquetball. I don't think we're actually "playing racquetball" correctly, but we're having one heck of a good time and getting a good calorie burn while we do it.
And lastly, I have been doing a lot of organizing and creating printables for our family to use for the upcoming school year.
I haven't mentioned it here, but I will be homeschooling Evan (at least during the first semester of this school year). He will be entering the 9th grade (high school freshman) and we've decided to use on online high school program. I'm nervous, but at the same time excited. We are ready to get started and see how things go. We will be starting class next Monday, the 19th, which is the same day public school starts and also the same day Maya starts fall classes at the junior college. We're not sure if he will be continuing with home schooling for the next semester or if he will be going back to public school. Only time will tell. We just want to try and figure out what works best for him.
I would love to hear from other homeschoolers. I would especially like some input from those with high schoolers and those who use or have used an online program. Tips, tricks, suggestions are much appreciated!
